10 Things to do in Maldives - Local Islands & Resorts

Are you looking for fun things to do in the Maldives? You’ve come to the right place! Visiting the Maldives will instantly transport you to paradise.

I took this trip spontaneously & solo and I absolutely loved it. You don’t have to hold off on the Maldives for the perfect romantic getaway, you can do it solo, with friends, your significant or your entire family.

1. Sunrise yoga on the beach

Start your day with a refreshing and relaxing yoga session on the beach or in the water on a wakeboard.

2. Go swimming with stingrays

In theory this can sound a little scary but it doesn’t have to be. Stay clear of their tails but the rest of their body is completely harmless. Feel free to pet them, feed them and even give them a kiss.

3. Explore the underwater wildlife while scuba diving

It doesn’t matter if it’s your first time scuba diving or your experienced the waters of the Maldives is worth exploring. The schools of fish, dolphins, stingrays, turtles, whale sharks and more are absolutely stunning and amazing to see.

4. Have lunch on a private sandbank by boat

If you join a tour it’s likely you will have a stop at a sandbank and have this opportunity. As the tide get higher the sandbank will disappear so be aware of what time you get there To get a full experience.

5. Try the local Maldivian dish like Masroshi

Part of exploring a new country is always experience their food and culture. Step out of your comfort zone and try a local dish.

6. Go dolphin watching

I would say go swimming with dolphins but these are wild, non domesticated dolphins. Definitely jump in and try to catch them but this would be an activity for very strong swimmers. Have your GoPro ready to go as well.

7. Treat yourself to a spa treatment

Whether you’re there solo or on a romantic get away you deserve some pampering. Doing this at sunset and ending the night with dinner will be the perfect end to your day.

8. Take a day trip to a resort

If you decided to stay on a local island instead of a resort, taking a day trip is a great way to see how it is. This will be a full day trip filled with relaxation, ocean views, water activities, sip drinks and eat with a view.

9. Go jet skiing

This was probably one of the most affordable places I have ever gone jet skiing. Honestly, it was very affordable on the local islands to do all water sports. The waters are pretty calm so you can ride out far and have a great time on the water.

10. Eat dinner on the beach & watch sunset

Who doesn’t love to eat a great meal with a view? There are plenty of restaurants throughout the islands and on the resorts that will give you a beautiful sunset. The difference being you don’t need a reservation at local restaurants but you should make one on the resorts if you don‘t plan to eat at the buffet.

While it’s common to see a trip to the Maldives with an expensive price tag on it, it doesn’t have to be that way. You can spend all of your time on a local island to cut your cost significantly or split your stay between the local islands and resorts for a price breakdown as well. The best time of the year to go is between December and February.

Enjoy your journey,
